Prices and Rates

When I am contacted for my services, one of the main questions I’m asked is: “How much is this going to cost?” It is a fair and reasonable question. We all want to feel like the money we spend is being used in the smartest way possible. We are especially cautious when it comes to paying for something intangible like design and development – it can’t be held in our hands, so how much can it really be worth? But the most bothersome part is, there is no consistency in prices among designers! So, here I’ve provided a list of the Factors That Affect My Prices, which should help you to make your decision.

Factors That Affect the Price of Design:
The features and elements you want
Because you may think your needs are simple, does not mean that they are. Some things look easy but are very complicated. For example, you may only want a single webpage, but because of the functionality you require and the features you want, it can, as a result, cost more than a website with 5 pages. Also, I do not always price by the amount of time something takes. A doctor may be able to stitch a cut in 10 minutes, but to do so, requires knowledge, skill, and precision. Likewise, I have spent considerable time and resources learning to do what I do. And I do it well.

The tools I use
Conventional thinking dictates that designers who charge more provide expertise you won’t find at a bargain rate. However, my mission is to use efficient inexpensive and/or open source tools to create aesthetic and intelligent digital and physical marketing products that are affordable and accessible to small business clients. As a result, my prices may be lower than other designers. But, note, there are limitations with these tools. I will always endeavour to find suitable solutions and/or workarounds to mitigate against any limitations that hinder you from getting what you want.

Client demands
I’m just going to be honest with you: If you email or call me 50 times a day, expect a billion tiny revisions, cut into my time with my family, and/or request things outside the scope of our working relationship, it’s going to cost you. “I’m people too” and (sometimes) I have a tendency to live life away from my computer.
